Mountain Stitch Retreat Recap: A Weekend of Creativity, Connection & Slow Making
Share
There’s something really special that happens when you bring a group of makers together in the mountains.
This past April, the Mountain Stitch Retreat became exactly what we had hoped for—and more. Set just outside Fernie, surrounded by quiet forest and mountain views, it was a space where creativity slowed down, conversations deepened, and stitching became more than just a hobby—it became a shared experience.

A Space to Create (and Breathe)

From the moment everyone arrived, the energy felt different—in the best way.
We settled into a beautiful mountain lodge, complete with cozy fireplaces, big communal tables, and quiet corners for stitching. Between sessions, people wandered outside to take in the fresh air, warmed up in the sauna, or simply sat with a coffee and their work in progress.
The environment mattered. It gave everyone permission to slow down.
And that’s when the magic started to happen.

Stitching, Learning & Letting Go of Perfection
Throughout the weekend, we moved between guided workshops, relaxed “yarn jam” sessions, and open stitching time—creating a balance between learning and simply enjoying the process.
There was laughter over tangled yarn, quiet focus during new techniques, and those small but powerful moments when something finally clicked.
What stood out most wasn’t perfection—it was willingness.
People tried new stitches, new ideas, and in some cases, picked up a hook for the first time in a long time. Others leaned into more advanced techniques, sharing knowledge across the table like it was second nature.
That’s the beauty of these spaces—everyone becomes both a student and a teacher.

Community That Feels Like Home

If there’s one thing that defined the retreat, it was the people.
Strangers quickly became familiar faces. Conversations flowed easily—about projects, life, creativity, and everything in between. There’s something about sitting side-by-side, hands busy, that makes connection feel natural.
By the end of the weekend, it didn’t feel like an event anymore.
It felt like a little community.
Nourishment in Every Way
From shared meals to late-night stitching by the fire, the retreat wasn’t just about making—it was about being.
Meals were enjoyed together, stories were exchanged, and there were moments of stillness that are hard to come by in everyday life. The rhythm of the weekend reminded us that creativity thrives when we’re cared for—not rushed.

Why This Matters
In a world that constantly pushes for productivity, weekends like this are a quiet rebellion.
They remind us:
- That hobbies are not “extra”—they’re essential
- That creativity doesn’t need to be monetized to be meaningful
- That slowing down can actually bring us closer—to ourselves and to others
Retreats like this exist to create space. Space to learn, to rest, to try again, and to reconnect with why we started making in the first place.

Until Next Time…
To everyone who came—thank you for bringing your energy, your openness, and your creativity.
You made this weekend what it was.
To those that contributed and the companies that sponsored us-THANK YOU!

And if you’ve ever thought about joining something like this, consider this your sign. Whether you’re a beginner or have been stitching for years, there’s a place for you here.
We’re already dreaming up the next one… 🤍
